About Diabetes
Diabetes is commonly divided into two types. They are Diabetes mellitus and Diabetes insipidus. Diabetes mellitus is usually signified as Diabetes. This is a group of metabolic diseases. If a person is affected by this disease, he/she will have high blood sugar. This blood sugar can be high because of the fact that the body fails to supply adequate insulin. It may also increase because the cells which act in response to the insulin produced do not function at a particular time.
The high blood sugar may produce a few or more symptoms. There will be urine excreted from the body more frequently than normal. The symptoms like increase in the thirst of a person and increase in hunger or in appetite will also show up. When insulin is not formed in a sufficient amount in the body, the person is required to inject insulin in the body which will keep the diabetes under control. If this is not done then the blood sugar may rise. Insulin should also be injected when the cells in the body resist the insulin production. Another type of diabetes is seen in pregnant women, which is known as gestational diabetes.
In the women, who never had diabetes before, high blood glucose level may raise during pregnancy. It may further proceed to the development of Diabetes mellitus. There is another type in diabetes mellitus which is called congenital diabetes. This will occur due to genetic defects of insulin secretion. There is also cystic fibrosis related diabetes as a form of mellitus.

The most common type of diabetics found about in 90-95 percent of diabetic patients is of TYPE 2. This form of diabetes is mainly resulted due to obesity, family history of diabetes, older age, and previous history of gestational diabetes, physical inactivity, and ethnicity. About 80 percent of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop gradually. Symptoms include fatigue or nausea, frequent urination, unusual thirst, weight loss, blurred vision, frequent infections, and slow healing of wounds or sores but there are few people don’t have any symptoms.
Now coming to the third type its GESTATIONAL DIABETES. This type of diabetics generally develops during pregnancy. It commonly occurs in women with a family history of diabetics
The above information can help you know about the types and symptoms of each type of diabetics now lets see the medications you need for each type.
Diabetes:
Diet is very important for diabetes disease as it helps to control weight and lower the blood sugar level. The word diet conjures up visions of torture, hunger pangs, resisting temptations and spending months on end trying to lose a few pounds, becoming more and more irritable as the months go by, and finding the bother not worth it while. Diet really means having the cake and eating it too, according to our simple plan.
When we take more calories than necessary, these facility substances store in our bodies and we grow fat and overweight. What is a calorie> it is a measure of the amount of energy produced by food. Thus food high in calories makes more energy. Energy generated is put to use by our bodies for walking, sitting and even sleeping. We gain weight when excess calories are taken.
You already know you are overweight because you overate, but what is not known is how few extra calories can add unwelcome pounds. To find out how many pounds you can safely lose in the next 30 days, turn to the “what you should weigh chart”. Use it to find your desirable weight. Then subtract your desired weight from your present weight. This will tell you how many pounds you are overweight. Now multiply the number of your excess pounds by 3,500, to find out how many calories you must cut out in order to attain an ideal weight. For example, your weight should be 128 pounds, but at present you are 143 pounds. So you are 15 more pounds. To lose the extra 15 pounds you are carrying, you must eat 52,500 calories less than your body uses. A look at this daily maintenance calories chart shows that to keep 143 pounds that you presently weigh, you have been eating about 2,300 calories a day. So, if you go on 1000 calories a day diet, you will be taking calories less daily.
By keeping calorie record for 30 days see your diet at work. By maintaining a monthly dairy, you give your diet structure- so it does not go on endlessly. Set a time limit. Decide your diet daily calories allowance. Among diets, counting calories is still the best and has the longest lasting result. Get in the habit of counting entering calories immediately after a meal.
Herbal Supplements Helping In Diabetes
People are interested in using herbal supplements in order to improve their health and it is only because of growing popularity for non-traditional medications in the West. The people who are having diabetes can suffer a lot with the complex health issues and there are only treated but not be cured. In order to regulate the levels of body glucose some prescribed medications must be used for treating diabetes. These herbal supplements include herbs, vitamins, etc. which are intended to maintain the health conditions normal.
Make sure about the FDA approval before selecting the herbal supplements for better results. These supplements must be given certain certifications from NSF and any other related authority, who indicate these supplements are free from harmful chemicals and pollutants. Many herbal supplements cause lower sugar levels and the impact is not seen in treating diabetes, hence they are not useful in the process of diabetes treatment.
The blood sugar levels in the body can be effectively controlled by insulin or with the help of some oral medications. From the clinical trials it was observed that two out of three diabetes patients die only because of heart problems. When the situation is related to wound healing then the cellular regeneration also becomes very important. It takes more time to cure the wounds of persons who are suffering from diabetes and the infections may result in sever health hazards and may not be cured quickly. Hence you can have a safe and secure treatment when you are making use of herbal supplements.
Insulin Aspart Injection
- This pharmaceutical preparation is the combination of aspart and insulin. The onset of action is faster while the duration of action is slower; it last for a longer period. The combination of both these drugs when injected to the patient they help in decrease the blood sugar levels.
- The diabetes should be controlled and checked regularly; if not it may lead to increase in other complications like diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, and even diabetic retinopathy.
- This insulin injection preparation should be injected only in the sub-cutaneous region for greater drug absorption. Avoid injecting the insulin preparation in one region only; if done the injected site may develop lipodystrophy.
- Do not inject cold insulin, the vial or the drug container should be kept at room temperature. For the best result better inject the insulin unites 10-15 minutes before meals. Avoid eating large meals; small meals with short interval of time may help to maintain correct blood sugar levels.
- The dose of the insulin is recommended by the doctor based on the medical condition and the amount of blood sugar level. Do not inject this insulin mixture directly to veins; the patients may suffer severe complications.
- If the preparation is with a dust particle or microbial contamination better discard the preparation. Do not use the same syringe on different patients; thus the infections and transmission of diseases is maintained. Better use disposable syringes for injecting this preparation. Do not rub the area of injection as they may cause severe pain.
DIABETES:
Diabetes has been given a scientific name called as diabetes mellitus. This is a type of disease which happens due to increase in the blood sugar levels in the body of that person. The general symptoms are excessive urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. There are 3 basic forms of diabetes which are; the first one is where the body of the patient is not able to produce enough insulin. Another where the insulin produced is not used properly and the third where pregnant women get diabetes. All the types of diabetes have been treatable since insulin was introduced. The diabetes which are related to insulin problems in the body are generally chronic and cannot be completely cured. The transplantation of the pancreas is one of the methods of permanent cure. A gastric bypass surgery is also one of the options for permanent cure of diabetes. The diabetes that happens during pregnancy is known as gestational diabetes. This gestational diabetes mellitus also resembles the second type of diabetes. It occurs in 2-5% of pregnancies. It usually improves or sometimes disappears after the pregnancy period is over. This type of diabetes is completely treatable but requires medical attention throughout the period of pregnancy. If this type of diabetes is not treated then it could cause major damage to the mother and the baby. The risks or the deficiencies that the baby could be born with may be high birth weight, congential cardiac and nervous system disorders. In some severe cases death of the baby could also occur.
Islet NeoGenesis Associated Protein (INGAP)
The worse affects of diabetes mellitus on human beings have now focused to develop insulin producing cells to the patient. The implantation of the islets to the diabetic patients may improve the tendency to decrease the blood glucose by producing insulin.
Description: It is mainly regulated for the endogenous pancreatic regeneration; INGAP and other regIII proteins are linked spatially with the induction of islet neogenesis. This will widely improve the glycemic control and survival in both pre-clinical and clinical trails.
Function: Islets of pancreas; regeneration of beta cells from pancreatic stem cells. The function, architecture, and gene expression is regulated by the fresh cultured pancreatic cells are sensitive and responsive to INGAP peptide chain. They involve islets metabolism, insulin secretion mechanism and exocytosis.
Research studies: According to the research studies; mice INGAP is an initiator to stimulate beta cell mass. But in clinical trails; these peptide structures have shown a greater tendency involving islet neogenesis. Thus peptide has been tested in human clinical trails, and it was being successfully treated. This initiator of islet neogenesis in animals models the INGAP and carries the biological activity.
This improved the insulin production levels in humans suffering with type-I diabetes and improves glycemic control in type-II diabetes patients. The evidences that INGAP-PP induces neogenesis and existence of negative feedback loop. Sometimes this INGAP-PP induces the risk of developing diabetes.
These cells will help in maintaining the insulin levels in the body, but the process is complicated, time taking and costly.
Types of medication for diabetes
When a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, they feel insulin injections are only treatments available to treat them. In fact, there are several treatments and medications available for treating it. Here are some of the drugs available today for treating diabetes. They are
Biguanide
It is also known as Metformin, a drug to treat diabetes and have to be taken two or three times a day. It helps in controlling the liver in producing more glucose. It has some side effects like upset stomach, nausea and diarrhea. These side effects can be controlled by limiting the drug with food.
Sulphonylureas
Sulphonylureas such as chlorpropamide, gilbenclamide and glimepiride are one form of diabetes treatments and to be taken once in a day. Side effects may include nausea, upset stomach, skin rashes, and weight gain. It takes long time to show its results and can drop down the blood sugar levels too low, leading to hypoglycemia. This is the main reason; drug is rarely prescribed to elderly diabetics.
Alpha Glucose Inhibitor
This drug is to be taken thrice a day. This drug helps in slows down the blood sugar levels, after a meal. Firstly, it is recommended to take once in a day, as to cut down then side effects like bloating, upset stomach and diarrhea.
Thiazolidinediones
These are new drugs come in two forms namely rosiglitazone and pioglitazone. It helps to overcome insulin resistance. Side effects may include weight gain and headache. In some rare cases may lead to respiratory tract infections.
DPP- 4 inhibitors
DPP-4 inhibitors one of type of medications that increases incretin hormone levels, that occur naturally in the body. This drug can be taken with other drugs like thiazolidinediones but not with insulin.
The above are some types of medications used to treat diabetes.
Diabetes with Jaundice
Ø Diabetes is the disorder in which the glucose levels are increased in the blood stream. The body becomes insulin resistant due to this the urine is with glucose, and Ketone bodies. The stored fat and protein present in the liver are metabolized the metabolized products are appeared in the urine, converting it to acidic nature. In diabetic patients suffering with jaundice, due to lack of treatment the pancreas gets damaged and affects the liver also. The bilirubin from the liver is secreted more and this leads to jaundice confirmation.
Ø The diet should include fruits like oranges, pears, pine apples, and grapes. It is better to drink juices than a large meal until the disease gets suppressed. A juice fast can also be taken if you have a history of recurring jaundice. Regular exercise and sleep can enhance the effects of a healthy diet. In case the patient is suffering with the gestational diabetes, intense care must be taken so as not to spread to the fetus.
Ø The diet should not include alcohol, fried foods, soda, tea, coffee, and high fats. Excessive amounts of caffeine can affect the liver which causes the lesions in the liver in chronic stages. Diet should be taken in limit and small. Legumes and pulses, all other protein food shall be taken with in limit. Herbal drugs that can be used in the treatment are chicory, gokulakanta, Indian aloe, snake guard, and turpeth. All these drugs are very effective in treating liver diseases.
Type2 Diabetes:
Less production of insulin by beta cells of pancreas leads to Type2 diabetes. It is the most common type of diabetes seen in people. Type2 diabetes is most commonly seen in young people and adults though it may occur at any age. Many people does not diagnose type 2 diabetes even if they have it, which is a very serious matter as it may slowly lead to type1 diabetes. Sufficient Insulin is required to make the blood glucose level normal. After 5 to 10 year the production of insulin may be completely stopped and this may lead to type 1diabetes where insulin has to be injected daily for the survival of a person. Symptoms of type2 diabetes are frequent urination, excessive thirst, blurred vision, weight loss, hunger etc.
Type2 diabetes is also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, shortly NIDDM, or adult – onset diabetes. Type2 diabetes can be controlled initially with regular exercises and proper diet. As the situation progresses patient can be put on medication.
Type2 diabetes is seen primarily due to lifestyle and genetic factors. If a person is having high levels of physical activity, good diet, no smoking, less alcohol consumption, chances of getting type2 diabetes is very less. Obesity is also another reason for the increase of type 2 diabetes in people. Nowadays children are getting attracted to the processed foods like chocolates, ice-cream, biscuits, cool drinks etc. and having less physical activity. They are tending to get type2 diabetes easily. Limited quantities of any kind of food are not harmful but excess is always dangerous. So one has to keep and eye on their children’s diet and give them good education in taking proper food.
Genetics also plays and important role in type2 diabetes. Having family history of diabetes especially first degree like mother, father, brother, sister type2 diabetes develops substantially. High blood cholesterol level is also a factor for getting type2 diabetes.
Check the blood sugar levels regularly and follow good diet, and yoga for avoiding risk factors.
